IMPORTANT BIRD AREAS
Birdland Retreat is in the heart of one of WA’s Important Bird Areas, the Jalbarragup IBA. These are sites of international importance for bird conservation. Jalbarragup IBA is one of 74 covering 2% of WA and 314 in Australia. Important Bird Areas have been identified in 198 countries and territories.
The Jalbarragup IBA supports at least 20 breeding pairs of the endangered Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo and at least three breeding pairs of the endangered Baudin's Black-Cockatoo and associated habitat within a 10 km radius of the locality of Jalbarragup. Some of these magnificent birds can be seen at the property on a daily basis,calling & dining out on the Marri tree honkey nuts or the Bull Banksia seeds.
